WTF Is Going On?

Seriously. What the fuck is going on with people stabbing other people in Western Canada anyway? Earlier this week, we hear of 5 people stabbed to death at a house party to end the academic year at a university in Calgary. Cops there say two things: 1): It's the deadliest mass murder in that city. Ever. And 2): It was the son of a high ranking cop that may have been the man wielding the knife. Which was (apparently) taken from a drawer in the kitchen of the home several other students were renting.
Then the next day, a 15 year old stabbed 4 people at random in a mall in downtown Regina. According to what I've heard, it was a gang initiation thing. Luckily, the 4 people hurt there will live. And once the youth serves his "slap on the wrist" sentence, I'm sure he'll be granted full status in whatever gang it was. And if THAT's not bad enough, there was another stabbing in Ontario, just to round things out
As bad as these incidents are, just think of the carnage that would have happened if the assholes had guns?
And I'm almost sure someone out there is going to start screaming about knife control of some measure. Maybe put metal detectors at all public venues. Which simply won't work. And if I had the answer to the problem, I'd be the first yelling and screaming about it from the highest rooftop in Canada.
And while this won't solve the problem or bring the people killed back to life, I still think it's time we had a long, hard look at the punishment part of our justice system. The guy in Calgary has been charged with 1st degree murder times 5. In any case where someone has died due to deliberate actions, I believe the death penalty should be applied. The youth in Regina was charged with aggravated assault times 4. If there is a gang connection, he that should be upgraded to attempted murder. And the punishment should be 10 years in jail. Each. Served consecutively, not concurrently. With nothing taken off due to time served waiting for trial.
   'Nuff said.
